ONLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR CANDIDATES IN NEW ZEALAND NOW
We're looking to add another reliable and trustworthy Farm Assistant to our team, pretty much
immediately. Our junior staff member has moved on to his next step, which as created a vacancy in our
team.
We are milking 600 cows twice-a-day (TAD) starting in mid-August, and will reduce this to once-a-day
(OAD) in summer sometime. The dairy shed is spacious and modern; well-equipped with ACRs, in-shed
feeding, SmartWash, and a hydraulic backing gate.
The other gear on the farm is well maintained and fit-for-purpose. (More info is available in the
farm/business profile)
A private bedroom in 1 of our 2 on-farm accommodations will be made available to the successful
applicant. This is to be a service tenancy made available as a shared accommodation for the Farm
Assistant to occupy with other Farm Assistants. Both homes are warm & dry & modern. They also have
stunning views of Mount Ruapehu. Each home is supplied with basic furnishings.
NO PETS ALLOWED, please do not ask.
NO SMOKING OR VAPING in or near the accommodation or farm equipment & buildings
*If shared accommodation won't suit, you could sort your own lodging in Ohakune or Raetihi.
Ohakune appears to have plenty of lodging available at this time. We are open to this becoming a
drive-in position for a candidate with a family/pets/etc.

This position is ideally suited for a physically & mentally fit person who is quite comfortable working
OUTSIDE, in all sorts of weather conditions (which can often be wet and cold!!! or clear and sunny....but
we have ZERO control of which!!!). This candidate should ideally be someone who has SOME animal
husbandry/stock handling experience, an excellent attitude, keen attention to detail. This position
requires the ability to work as a team and and a tremendous willingness to learn. This position requires
a person with time management skills and a person that can keep pace with the rest of the team

reasonably tidy & organised! We also require calm and quiet handling of stock, as they are of utmost

Our farm is about 600 hectares, with scattered native bush throughout. It is nestled up alongside the
Tongariro National Park, in the Ruapehu District. The farm is flat to gentle, rolling contour throughout.
We will often have snow on the farm a few times each year, but it's not normally around for long. The
frosts can be brutal here, but the cows don't seem to mind!
We’re about 15 minutes drive to Ohakune, Raetihi, or Waimarino/National Park; 80 min to Taupo or
Whanganui; 120 min to Palmerston North.
The Ruapehu District is absolutely stunning, in our opinion. It is incredibly scenic and provides
ample opportunities for leisure activities when one isn't busy farming (fly-fishing, hunting, biking,
tramping, skiing/snowboarding, kayaking, and so on). The people who call this district their home are
generally very warm and welcoming, which is part of what drew us here many, many years ago. The
local schools are all safe and enriching environments for our children....

Spring calving for us begins about 20-August and we calve approximately 600 cows.
The shed is ten years old and is a pleasure to work in. It’s a 34-a-side, "double-up" herringbone with
ACR’s (automatic cup removers), rapid exit system, in-shed feeding, and a hydraulic backing gate.
We’ve also installed a SmartWash system to help keep the plant sparkling clean.
In addition to 600 milking cows, we tend to hold some carry-over cows and all of our young stock on
the home farm (and a couple of nearby lease blocks). Each year, we aim to rear 145-160 dairy
replacements and sell the surplus calves at various stages of life. Tail-up bulls are always on the farm
or on the lease block as well.
