Farm Assitant and 2ic

staff Requirements – 500-Cow Dairy Farm

Farm Size: 240 hectares
Herd Size: 500 cows
Location: New Zealand

1. Second-in-Charge (2IC)

The successful applicant must have solid dairy farming experience and be capable of running daily farm operations independently when required.

Requirements and responsibilities:

* Confidently carry out morning and afternoon milking independently.
* Have good knowledge of cow health, mastitis detection, and SCC management.
* Be experienced in tractor operation and farm machinery.
* Understand pasture management, grazing rotations, and feed allocation.
* Assist with calving, calf rearing, and animal health treatments.
* Maintain farm equipment, fences, water systems, and troughs.
* Help organise and supervise the Farm Assistant.
* Follow farm procedures and maintain accurate records.
* Be reliable, responsible, and able to work independently.

2. Farm Assistant

The successful applicant must be hardworking, reliable, and capable of completing daily farm tasks with minimal supervision.

Requirements and responsibilities:

* Carry out morning and afternoon milking independently once trained.
* Be confident with teat stripping and mastitis detection.
* Have tractor-driving experience and be able to operate farm machinery safely.
* Assist with pasture management, paddock setup, and feeding.
* Monitor cow health and report problems promptly.
* Assist with calving, calf rearing, and animal handling.
* Carry out farm maintenance and keep the milking shed clean.
* Follow instructions, complete assigned tasks, and maintain good timekeeping.

General Requirements for Both Positions

• Previous New Zealand dairy farming experience preferred.
  * Ability to milk cows independently.
  * Tractor and machinery operating skills.
  * Good animal welfare and health-and-safety practices.
  * Reliable, punctual, and hardworking.
  * Able to work as part of a team and independently when required.
  * Appropriate training and authorisation for machinery and farm equipment.
