We are seeking an experienced farm worker (12+ months) to join our team as Assistant Herd Manager on an 1,800-cow farm in the Ashburton area, operating a two 50 Bail Rotary milking shed. You'll have a range of duties to keep you busy, interested and developing including: Milking and monitoring milk quality, stock handling and feeding (feed mgt), fencing, weed control, calving, calf rearing, shed cleaning and setup identifying and alerting managers to sick cows setting fences and other general farm duties. Weekly hours are a minimum of 35 and a maximum of 44. Since farm work is dependent on a number of unknown factors like weather and animals, any hours worked beyond the agreed maximum in a fortnightly pay period will be paid at the agreed overtime rate. Due to promotion we are looking for a new staff member for the 2026/2027 season. We are located 5 mins from Rakaia,10 mins from Dunsandel and 15 min from Leeston. We milk 1450 cows through a new 54 bail rotary shed with auto cup removers. Farm has pivot irrigation and klines. The position would best suit someone with at least 3 months experience and has a understanding of the day to day workings of a dairy farm , but a good attitude and willingness to learn is priority. The position includes milking, setting fences, rideing moterbikes and irrigation to name a few.
