Our farm sits at Carew, in a great central spot in Mid Canterbury with the best of everything on your doorstep. Geraldine is just 15 minutes away, Temuka 20 and Ashburton 25, with Christchurch an easy 1 hr 20 drive. Love the outdoors? Peel Forest walks, lakes and Mt Hutt are 30 minutes away with Tekapo and Twizel 1.5 hours. For your downtime, the Ashburton community gym has a gym, sauna and pool all included at a really good price.
We’re heading into our sixth season managing this 920-cow farm, with seven years of farm managing behind us – and we run our own tractors and wagon. We’re currently seeking a reliable Dairy Farm Assistant to join our friendly team of 3 others for the long term. We’re quiet, hands-off managers who will give you the training and support you need, then trust you to get on with the job. Everyone mucks in here – all jobs are shared regardless of role, and that includes the Farmer!
You’ll be milking our 920-cow herd through our 50-bail rotary fitted with ACR and Protrack. We calve in Spring and our cows graze off farm over winter. The farm is irrigated with 2 pivots and 3 sprinklers.
To make the shortlist: milking experience, confidence on a 2-wheeler motorbike and a minimum restricted driver licence are a must. Tractor skills are not essential but certainly a bonus! Training and upskilling support is on offer, and there is genuine opportunity for career progression for the right person.
Our roster is 8/3 and 7/3, moving to 6/1 over calving (July and August) and 6/2 in September, averaging 50 hours per week. We try to organise sleep-ins when things aren’t too busy, and we like to get together and be social whenever we can.
In return for your hard work, we offer a competitive salary including a warm, double glazed 3 double bedroom home (valued at $250 per week) with a fire, heat pump, bath and carport. You’ll pay your own power and internet, but your phone plan is included, all your gear is provided. Cats are welcome, but sorry – no dogs.
A great spot for families too: Carew Primary School is just 2km away (no bus) and Carew also has a Playcentre, while the Geraldine High School bus picks up from our gate.
