Shepherd Wanted – Central Otago Sheep & Beef Station We're a family-owned and operated beef and sheep farm set in stunning countryside, just 10 minutes from Omakau and 30 minutes from the beautiful town of Alexandra.  Running 13,000 stock units across 809ha of flat to rising country, we're looking for someone who considers themselves a good stockman with plenty of experience. Our sheep are fine wool, our cattle are crossbreeds, there's real variety and growth in what we do. We have some pivot irrigation, but the bulk of the work is all forms of stock work — crutching, drafting, moving stock — as well as moving break fences, general maintenance, tractor work and much more. No two days are the same. If you have a couple of fully trained dogs, that's an advantage but not essential. You'll need good stock sense and the relevant skills to hit the ground running — we're happy to train, but not from scratch. We're a small team who get on well, and lunch is provided daily....

We consider our family owned and run farm a great place to be as it is located just 2 mins from the township of Ahaura and only 30 mins to either Reefton or Greymouth, so we are ideally located for families or single people as there is plenty to do on your days off and there are great schools nearby, there is a lovely country pub too that does great food!  You will need to come to us with at least a good 6 months experience under your belt.   Your duties will include milking, maintaining a clean shed and the normal day to day duties of running a farm.   Most importantly you will need a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn and to be serious about building a career in the dairy industry.  There is a lovely 3-bedroom house on farm, and we are looking to pay between $26.00 to $30.00 per hour including accommodation.   We guarantee a minimum of 30 hours per week.   We are a drug and smoke free farm.

Our stunning family-owned farm is situated on 582 Ha of flat land and is located just 15 mins to Geraldine, only 20 minutes to Ashburton and a quick 25 mins to Methven, so if on your days off you want to get away from the farm and enjoy some of the many activities in the area such as skiing, fishing, hunting, café’s, shops then this is the perfect location for you! We milk our beautiful 2100 cows through a very high tech 80 bail rotary that literally has all the bells and whistles, and we are currently seeking a proactive farm assistant to join our awesome team.   We have a great team of people and currently we are on a 6/3 roster, we do this so that our people can have a good work life balance.
