FARM ASSISTANT WANTED

Foote Dairy & Livestock Ltd is looking for a reliable, motivated and hardworking Farm Assistant to join our team.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, has a genuine interest in farming, and takes pride in getting the job done to a high standard.

About the Role

We are looking for a fulltime farm assistant to join our team on our 200ha dairy farm based in Mamaku, which is situated 20 minutes west of Rotorua, 35 minutes from Tirau.

We milk a 570 Kiwi Cross spring calving herd twice a day from end of July to early June, through a 60 aside herringbone shed. You would be working alongside us, the 50/50 sharemilkers and our 2IC. This is a full-time role, and our roster from July to December is 12 and 2 (every second weekend off) and from there we run 11 and 3. We have installed CowManager this season, Bovonic mastitis detectors and an EasyDairy automatic drafting gate.

The role will involve a variety of day-to-day farming duties, including:

• General farm work and milking the cows
• Identifying lame cows and cows with mastitis
• Shifting stock and moving break fences
• Fencing and farm maintenance
• Assisting with rearing of our young stock
• Machinery and equipment operation
• Cowshed maintenance
• General farm duties as required such as spraying and weed management.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

• Is reliable, punctual and has a strong work ethic
• Is quiet when working with our stock
• Able to confidently ride a 2 wheeler and some tractor driving experience is preferred
• Enjoys working with animals, being part of a team and being outdoors
• Can work well independently and as part of a team and has great communication skills
• Has good attention to detail and takes pride in their work
• Is willing to learn and develop their farming skills
• Holds a current driver's licence
• Has previous New Zealand dairy farming experience

There is a 2 bedroom house available, strictly NO pets. Regular house inspections are conducted by the employers and farm owners.
