Dairy Assistant / Drive in position, Mamaku, Rotorua

We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, capable person to join our family-owned dairy farm located at Mamaku, 20 minutes Northwest of Rotorua.

This newly created position is available for immediate start and would suit someone who enjoys working outdoors, is confident working independently, and can step up into greater responsibility when required.

Our preference is for this to be a permanent position however we will consider a fixed term role from calving until the end of mating.

About the business:

The 220 ha farm winters 620 cows and operates as a Dairy NZ “System 3” with in-shed feeding throughout the year and silage fed during the shoulder seasons.

The milkers are split into two herds and predominately milked OAD with the exception of one herd which is milked TAD until December.

About the role:

As the Dairy Assistant, you will work closely with the on-farm team providing day-to-day support for general farm activities including:

  • Milking
  • Feeding out and tractor work
  • Animal health
  • Calf rearing
  • Effluent and irrigation shifts
  • Weed control
  • General farm maintenance and management
  • Feed allocation and grazing management

You will report directly to the Contract Milker who is also part of the family business.

The role would suit someone with existing dairy experience and looking to expand their skills and gain more responsibility.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • be able to work independently, as well as part of a team,
  • have good time management skills,
  • be competent with core tasks such as milking and animal health,
  • have good communication skills,
  • be physically fit and reliable,
  • have a positive attitude towards health and safety, animal welfare and the environment,
  • be drug free.
