We are looking for an experienced and motivated Assistant Stockman to join our Farming Operation. The farm is 454Ha part irrigated farm situated at Lauder in Central Otago.
We operate as a Beef Fattening and Dairy Support Farm currently we transitioning out of Bulls into the following scenario: Beef 250 R1, 250 R2, 130 Breeding Cows, Dairy 200 R1’s 200 R2’s Wintering up to 550 Cows
We want someone who can confidently undertake all day to day tasks on farm including but not limited to pasture management, animal health competence with technology wheel tractor operation on undulating paddocks, ability to relate well to others.
The successful applicant will be a NZ resident with 2+yrs NZ farming experience, keen to learn & progress in the industry, punctual, reliable, able to work well with other staff, have a good work history with good recent farming references and drivers licence & own reliable transport. The farm supplies Fonterra. It will be run as a milking platform. Cows are wintered on our 454ha support farm run by Mike at Lauder (6km away).
There will be two milking mobs of 400 & 300 (approx.) cows. Each herd will be run as an independent farm. The milking will start at approx.5am and again at 2pm. The milkings will be split shift and on a roster system (6/1 during calving and mating, then 6/2 from Feb to end of June 5 on 2 off Winter)
The farm is irrigated with 2 VRI pivot irrigators, fixed grid sprinklers and K Line in corners on an 8-day round.
Planned Calving start August 12 and should be completed by the early of October.
The farming philosophy is: Cows will be fed on high quality grass with some supplements, there will be frequent low applications of Nitrogen to supply feed rather than excessive silage use. The farm is to be productive and profitable without excessive inputs.
