About the role We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable 2IC or Herd Manager to join our small dairy farming team. This is a hands-on and wide-ranging role working closely with the contract milking couple across all aspects of the family-owned farming operation. The role would suit someone who enjoys looking after and milking cows, and has attention to detail regarding both animal welfare and pasture management. The farm uses utilises Halter technology on the mostly rolling contour and peak milks 500 cows through a 50-bale rotary with in-shed feeding, ACR’s, auto-teatspraying and Protrack drafting. Due to unforeseen circumstances we are looking for someone to join us on our Dairy Farm near Morrinsville. We are milking 300 crossbred cows on 107ha 15 minutes North of Morrinsville. We have a brand new 30 aside herringbone cowshed with automatic cup removers and auto yard wash. There is a tidy 3 bedroom home available. The farm is grass based with grass and grass silage as the main feeds so this is a great place to learn excellent pasture management. We do about 110,000kgMS per year and typically go OAD in January each year. We aim for best practice in every area especially cow health, incalf rates, SCC and youngstock rearing. We rear ~70 replacement calves and they stay on farm until 1st May. This is a great opportunity to work with the farm owners and set yourself up for a great career in dairying.
