About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable 2IC or Herd Manager to join our small dairy farming team. This is a hands-on and wide-ranging role working closely with the contract milking couple across all aspects of the family-owned farming operation.

The role would suit someone who enjoys looking after and milking cows, and has attention to detail regarding both animal welfare and pasture management.

The farm uses utilises Halter technology on the mostly rolling contour and peak milks 500 cows through a 50-bale rotary with in-shed feeding, ACR’s, auto-teatspraying and Protrack drafting.

Key responsibilities

·        Work alongside the contract milkers in the daily running of the farm.

·        Carry out efficient, hygienic milking to maintain excellent milk quality with a calm demeanour in the shed.

·        Support pasture management and feed allocation through the use of Halter technology.

·        Operate and maintain farm machinery safely to feed out silage and palm kernel in the paddock.

·        Monitor animal health and welfare, including calving, mating, mastitis and lameness detection.

·        Keep accurate farm, animal health, and compliance records.

·        Maintain tidy farm and house presentation and contribute to a positive, safe workplace.

What we are looking for

·        Previous dairy farming experience, ideally at herd manager, senior farm assistant, or 2IC level.

·        Positive stockmanship and a genuine interest in animal health and welfare.

·        Good communication skills and a positive, reliable attitude.

·        Ability to work independently and as part of our small 2.5 staff team.

·        Comfortable using technology including farming software (Minda) and phone-based apps (Halter and Protrack).

·        Confidence with farm machinery (particularly tractors and feeding out in-paddocks of mixed contour) and day-to-day maintenance.

·        Attention to detail and willingness to follow farm systems.
