450 Cows  |  54 BR  |   30 minutes north of Hamilton

About the Business
Taniwha Estate Ltd is a family-owned and operated dairy farming business located in Orini, just 30 minutes north of Hamilton.
The farm milks 450 crossbred cows through a 54-bail rotary shed, operating a System 2–3 with a covered feedpad. Fertiliser application is managed by contractors.
We take pride in maintaining high standards across our farming operation and are looking for someone who shares these values, takes ownership of their work and enjoys being part of a successful farming team.

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and capable 2IC or Herd Manager who is confident taking responsibility and can step into sole charge of the farm when required.
Working alongside the Farm Owners, you will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day running of the farm. We need someone who can think ahead, use their initiative and make sound decisions.

Key responsibilities include:
•    Supporting the day-to-day running of the farm and taking sole charge when required.
•    Managing daily farm operations independently in the absence of the Farm Owners.
•    Monitoring animal health, welfare and performance.
•    Assisting with pasture management, feed allocation and seasonal activities.
•    Identifying issues early, making practical decisions and communicating effectively.
•    Maintaining accurate farm records and high standards of farm presentation.
•    Operating and maintaining farm machinery and equipment safely.
•    Following established farm procedures and health and safety requirements.

About You
You will have a strong practical farming background and be comfortable taking responsibility for the smooth running of the farm.
We are looking for someone who:
•    Has proven experience as a 2IC or experienced Herd Manager.
•    Is confident taking sole charge and making day-to-day operational decisions.
•    Has sound knowledge of animal health, pasture management and general farm operations.
•    Is organised, proactive and able to plan ahead.
•    Takes ownership of their responsibilities and follows tasks through.
•    Communicates well and knows when to seek advice or raise concerns.
•    Has excellent attention to detail and takes pride in their work.
•    Works well as part of a team but is equally capable of working independently.
•    Is keen to continue developing their farming and leadership skills.

Above all, we are looking for someone who is reliable, practical and capable of stepping up when needed.

The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to take on a responsible role within a supportive, family-owned farming business where your experience, initiative and contribution will be valued.

The package includes:
•    Permanent employment.
•    An 11-days-on, 3-days-off roster, with seasonal arrangements during the intensive July calving period.
•    A spacious four-bedroom, two-bathroom home built in 2014.
•    A supportive and collaborative working environment.
•    The opportunity to take on responsibility, contribute ideas and further develop your farm management skills.

How to Apply
If you are an experienced dairy farmer who enjoys taking responsibility and has the confidence to step into sole charge when needed, we would love to hear from you.
