Dairy Farm Assistant

$26.00 - $28.00 hourly

Job Description

*PLEASE NOTE: Applications will only be accepted from candidates currently living in New Zealand who hold a valid work visa, a resident visa with work rights, or New Zealand citizenship.

An opportunity to grow your career with a supportive, progressive dairy farming business.

We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Dairy Farm Assistant to join our collaborative and dynamic Manuka Farm team at Rakaia Island. We milk 1050 cows through a 54 bail internal rotary with ACRs, in-shed feeding and Allflex collar technology.

This opportunity has arisen as one of our much-valued team members moves on to the next stage of their dairy farming career.

We're not just looking for someone to fill a position – we're looking for the right person to become part of our team.

We have a strong team culture built on communication, collaboration, mutual respect and a shared commitment to doing things well. Finding someone who will complement this environment is just as important to us as their practical farming ability.

What we're looking for

The successful applicant will have a genuine passion for dairy farming, excellent stock sense and the drive to continually learn and improve.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • A minimum of six months' relevant experience working on a large-scale New Zealand dairy farm.

  • Excellent stock sense and a natural aptitude for working with animals.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.

  • Honesty, reliability and a positive, can-do attitude.

  • Plenty of initiative and the confidence to get on with the job while knowing when to ask questions.

  • A genuine desire to develop your skills and progress your career in the dairy industry.

  • Confidence and proficiency riding a two-wheel farm motorbike.

  • A current New Zealand driver's licence (restricted licence minimum).

Above all, we're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys being part of a team and brings a great attitude to work every day.

The role

You'll be involved in a variety of day-to-day farming activities, including milking, setting up fences,/breaks, plant and yard washes and all other general farm work, identifying and reporting health issues, assisting with treatments and maintaining accurate records. You'll be working alongside others, communicating well and showing plenty of initiative. The pay will range between $26-$28/hr on an average 45hr week

What we offer

We believe that a positive working environment, a good team and opportunities to develop are key to enjoying a successful career in dairy farming.

As part of our team, you'll enjoy:

  • A 5:2 roster providing a consistent work-life balance.

  • Free lunches Monday to Friday.

  • A supportive, collaborative working environment where everyone's contribution matters.

  • Opportunities to learn, develop your skills and build your dairy farming career.

  • Shared on-farm accommodation, with your own bedroom and bathroom, and shared kitchen and living areas. (Please note that the accommodation is suitable for a single person only, and unfortunately we are unable to accommodate families or pets.)

  • Employee Assistance Programme, wellness checks, health insurance, and other benefits

Sound like you?

We're proud of the team we've built and the opportunities we provide for people to develop their careers. If you think you'd be a great fit, we encourage you to apply.

* Due to the number of applications we receive, we are only able to contact successful candidates.
