Job Description

DAIRY FARM MANAGER/2IC

South Taranaki  |  330 Cows  |  165,000kgMS

Flexible roster  •  Efficient one man Shed  •  Top 1% BW herd

Looking for a role with real flexibility, a top-performing herd and a business that invests in its people? We're a progressive South Taranaki dairy farm looking for a skilled Farm Manager (or a strong 2IC ready to step up) to join us as we grow. Over the first 12 month you will work closely with us and receive full support as you learn the system. This will prepare you to step into a full management roll, allowing us to step back and focus on growing the business.

Why You'll Love Working Here

•     Efficient one man shed – allowing a flexible milking roster outside of calving and the peak of mating.

•     Very negotiable time off – we'll build a roster that works for you.

•     Negotiable salary + bonus potential – your package will reflect your experience, with the option of performance-based bonuses.

•     Elite genetics – work with a herd of cows in the top 1% for BW in the country.

•     Simple, repeatable systems – clear processes that drive high performance, so you can get great results without the chaos.

•     A progressive, tech-forward farm – we're open to new technologies and new ideas, and we want to hear yours.

•     Ongoing training and development – our goal is to grow everyone in the business, and you'll have the support to keep building your skills.

•     Large 4-bedroom house – plenty of space for you and your family, included with the role.

The Farm & Shed

•     24-aside herringbone cowshed

•     Auto cup removers

•     In-shed feed system

•     Auto drafting gate

•     Cow Manager ear tags for heat and health monitoring

•     One-man shed outside of calving, with a modern, well-automated setup that takes the hard graft out of milking

The Role

You'll work closely with the owner through the first season, getting across the herd, systems and business goals, with close mentoring and support to get you up and running. With expansion planned for the following season, there's a genuine pathway to grow within the business, and potentially a farm hand to work alongside you.

We're especially keen to hear from people who bring:

•     A genuine focus on milk quality and doing the small things right, every milking

•     Strong animal husbandry – someone who knows their cows and picks up issues early

•     A good understanding of pasture management and mating management

•     Be able to use technology to assist in making decisions eg Cow Manager

•     Be skilled in using farm machinery and equipment (e.g. tractors, farm bikes)

•     A proactive, team-oriented approach, with the drive to grow into a bigger role as the business expands

If you take pride in producing quality milk, know what great animal husbandry looks like, and want a role with real flexibility and room to grow, we'd love to hear from you.
