We’re looking for a Senior Farm Assistant to join our 4-person team on our 800-cow farm between Morrinsville and Gordonton.
Our current Shed Manager is retiring after 22 years on the farm, so we’re looking for someone who can step up and take on a senior role within the team.
We milk 800 cows through a 54-bale rotary and run a System 3 farm, with the feed pad being used for most of the year. We grow turnips and kale over summer and have a travelling irrigator to shift.
We’re after someone with at least 3 years’ dairy farming experience.
You’ll need to be someone who:
Can manage your own jobs and time during the day.
Can look around, see what needs doing, and get on with it.
Works fast and efficiently without cutting corners.
Can prioritise jobs and keep things moving.
Takes ownership of a job and sees it through to the end.
Is confident making decisions and solving problems.
Can organise yourself.
Doesn’t wait around for someone else to give you a job.
Takes pride in doing things properly.
We work hard as a team and like to get stuck into the jobs, work efficiently and get finished together. We’re looking for someone with the same attitude.
We want someone who can think for themselves, manage their own time and keep things moving.
We also put a lot of value on how someone handles the cows.You’ll need to be calm in the shed, patient with the girls and have good animal-handling skills.
A high standard of hygiene, cleanliness and care is important to us, particularly in the shed. We want someone who takes pride in keeping things clean and looking after the cows properly.
