2IC + Relief milker/ Calf rearer 

Kaiaua, Hauraki Plains | Autumn Calving | Start February 2027

Gulf View Dairies is seeking an experienced and motivated couple to join our dairy operation in Kaiaua for the 2027 autumn-calving season. We are a 120ha 300-cow autumn-calving farm, with calving commencing around 15 March each year, alongside which we rear approximately 300 Hereford-Friesian cross beef calves on a neighbouring run-off each season. We are looking for a capable 2IC who can take genuine responsibility for day-to-day farm operations, alongside a partner interested in a flexible role primarily covering calf rearing and relief milking. The successful couple will work alongside the Farm Owner and an existing full-time Farm Assistant.

The Farm

• 120ha dairy platform
• 300 dairy cows, with calving commencing 15 March
• 300 Hereford-Friesian cross beef calves to be reared annually
• Modern 30-aside herringbone cowshed with automatic cup removers and in-shed feeding
• Well-maintained races, fencing and water infrastructure
• Good range of tractors, machinery and farm equipment
• Full natural mating with Hereford bulls
• Hauraki Plains College school bus at the road gate.

2IC Role

The 2IC will work closely with the Farm Owner to implement the farm's daily and seasonal plans and will be expected to confidently take responsibility when the Farm Owner is away.

Key responsibilities include:

• Day-to-day farm operations and organisation
• Milking and maintaining high milk-quality standards
• Animal health, welfare and routine treatments
• Pasture allocation and break fencing
• Feeding maize silage, baleage and other supplements
• Operating tractors and farm machinery
• Operating two wheelers four wheelers
• General farm maintenance
• Maintaining farm presentation and standards
• Working effectively with and helping organise other staff

Partner role: Calf rearing and relief milking

Full time employment is available for a partner. The role provides a guaranteed minimum of 20 hours per fortnight throughout the season, primarily covering relief milking and general farm duties.   During the autumn calf-rearing period, approximately 15th March to 30th July, hours will increase to around 50–55 hours per fortnight. The partner will be rostered alongside the 2IC, ensuring both have their rostered days off together. 

About You

For these position, we're ideally looking for a couple with several years of practical New Zealand dairy-farming experience. Able to work independently while being comfortable working within the farm’s established systems, standards and direction. You will need to be accountable, reliable, practical and tidy, communicate well, work effectively as part of a small team and be comfortable taking responsibility for the farm when required.

Roster, Remuneration & Accommodation

• 11 days on / 3 days off. Rostered days off together
• 2IC Approximately 90 hours per fortnight. Hours will vary throughout the season with additional hours required during calving.
• Calf rearing/ Relief milking minimum of 20 hours a fortnight. Calving season approximately 50-55 hours a fortnight.
• Salaries based on experience and capability
