Relief Staff

Relief Staff Required: Located Between Putaruru & Arapuni

Sorry – no accommodation available, so we’re looking for drive-in relief staff to cover Jay’s time off (he’s our fabulous Herd Manager).  We are flexible but will usually need someone to cover every second Saturday, Sunday & Monday (with the cycle falling on 26th, 27th & 28th September, and each fortnight after that).  We will also need someone to cover longer periods of time, during Jay’s annual leave.

We can offer you:

• Supportive employers, but we’re not “accredited” for international staff. 
• Contact details for current & previous staff members so you can ask what we’re like to work for.
• Full training, if required – initially working alongside us or Jay. We can take you from an “assist” relief milker to “sole charge”.
• Training in how to use “Halter”.
• Well serviced and maintained machinery.
• A quiet F/Fx herd of 220-225 spring calving, high producing, low SCC cows.
• Feed system 3 - 4. 
• If you’re not trained or lack confidence in loading up and feeding out maize silage & palm kernel on a feedpad, we can teach you.
• Between now and December, you may be required to take a milk feeder to our runoff (1.3km away) to feed calves.  This will also involve lifting 20kg bags of meal into cone feeders.
• A once-a-day milking system from December to June.
• A remuneration package negotiated with the successful applicant.

• Are honest, reliable, self-motivated, and a good communicator (good command of English required), and the ability to read & write.
• Are happy to embrace the technology of “Halter”.
• Can record information, as required, in Dairy Diary.
• Have a sense of humour.
• Have a good work ethic and can work effectively when alone.
• Keep your working environment clean, tidy and drug/smoke/vape free.
• Are happy to partake in drugs testing and a police check, if required.
• Have a current drivers’ licence, and reliable vehicle.
• Operate in a safety conscious manner.

Farm:

• A well subdivided and established 68ha milking platform with good infrastructure – predominantly easy-rolling contour, with a few steeper areas.
• A user friendly 18 aside h/b dairy with great cow flow.
• We're at Te Tihi level regarding Fonterra milk quality, dairy cleanliness etc, and it's important to us to maintain that high standard.
• Strategic use of a feedpad, so in-shed drenching is not required for bloat or eczema.
