Our dairy farm is 7km west of Putaruru. It's 68ha effective and contour is mainly rolling, with some steeper sidelings. From mid December we milk once a day, and we use "Halter" as an important management tool on farm. We enjoy working with our manager, and we're looking for a relief milker to fit with our happy team, who's interested in using Halter (the app is very simple and self explanatory). Training available. Our long-term relief milker has retired from sole charge milking, hence the vacancy.
Our cows are important to us - genetically they are in the top 5% for BW in NZ herds. So it's essential for us to find someone kind, caring, with good attention to detail to milk them sole charge when required. Cleanliness is important to us, so all yards are fully washed each milking, and cups are kept clean. We aim for Fonterra's Te Tihi status each year, and want to ensure our usual grade-free performance is maintained each season.
We usually calve 225-230 cows, and we're currently milking 204. We run a System 3-4, plugging the feed deficits with maize silage and grass silage (with PKE blend to provide minerals and zinc when required).
