Permanent - Full Time Farm Assistant

Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and motivated Dairy Farm Assistant to join our team on a 680 cow dairy operation. Its located in the Howard Area about 1hr 30mins from Nelson, milking through a 50 bail rotary shed. This is a hands on role assisting with the day to day running of the farm to maintain high standards of animal welfare, milk production and farm presentation.

You'll have a range of duties to keep you busy, interested and developing including:

  • Milking cows twice a day and operating milking equipment.
  • Feeding stock and managing pasture allocation.
  • Monitoring animal health and reporting any issues
  • Assisting with calving and young stock care
  • Cleaning and maintaining the dairy shed and equipment
  • General farm duties including fencing, weed control, irrigation and maintenance

What we are looking for:

  • Some dairy farm experience (approximately 6 months or more) preferred but not essential.
  • Willingness to learn with full training provided.
  • Physically fit and able to work early mornings, weekends and in all weather conditions.
  • Reliable, punctual and able to work as part of a team.
  • Provide a CV that is current, correct and complete. ( you will not be considered with out this) 
  • Be able to pass a pre employment drug test
  • Be a solid worker and ith good character (where possible, we will do a criminal check)

What we offer:

  • Guaranteed minimum 35 hours per week and maximum 45 hours per week
  • Wage ranges from $23.95 - $29.00 per hour subject to experience.
  • On farm accommodation available.
  • A 5 days on 2 days off roster.
  • Supportive team environment with training  provided.
