Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Machinery Operator / General Farm Hand to join a commercial beef and sheep farming operation.

This role involves a mix of machinery operation and livestock work, supporting the day to day running of the farm, including animal husbandry, farm maintenance, and seasonal work.

Key Duties:

  • Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment, including tractors and associated implements
  • Assist with feeding, shifting, and general care of beef cattle and sheep
  • Support routine livestock handling activities such as drafting, drenching, vaccination, tagging, and weighing
  • Assist during key seasonal periods including calving and lambing
  • Carry out general farm maintenance including fencing, water systems, and weed control
  • Perform basic machinery maintenance and ensure equipment is kept in good working condition

Experience and Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in livestock farming or agricultural contracting
  • Good understanding of livestock handling and animal welfare practices
  • Basic mechanical ability preferred
  • Must be physically fit and able to undertake heavy manual work
  • Hold a full driver's license

Hours and Pay:

  • minimum of 40, with an average of 50, and a maximum of 55 hours per week
  • Roster: 10 days on, 2 days off
  • Salary ranges from $85,000 to $95,000 per annum, depending on experience
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours during peak seasonal periods, including lambing and calving

Shared 3-bedroom house is provided for part of the season (October–March), then solo accommodation for the remainder of the season. Pets and smoking are not permitted. Rent will be deducted from wages. Power and internet costs are payable by the worker.
