Our beautiful family-owned and run farm is set on 404Ha of lush green countryside just 20 mins from Westport. We have everything on our doorstep, good hunting, fishing, hiking trails, the list goes on for anyone who loves to spend time in the great outdoors.
We are looking for an experienced assistant farm manager who will be responsible for setting targets, increasing production, has excellent animal welfare skills, mating and pasture management knowledge, budget, feed budget and strategic planning skills and good staff management ability. You need to be a good hands-on type of person who can get what needs to be done to increase production. Currently we have 240 cows that we milk through a 50 ASHB shed, but we would like to increase our cow number to around 400 this season.
Going into our golden years we would like this person to take on more responsibility so that we can start thinking about taking a step back from the farm and work on other projects that we have going on, so you must be mature enough to be able to work alone, we do have relief milkers and a young dairy farm assistant that you will also be responsible for. We are thinking that a starting salary of around $80k plus accommodation, however, we are open to increasing that based on performance and you being able to increase cow numbers and therefore production over the next year or so. This could even lead to you becoming a contract or share milker for us in the future, but you must be prepared to prove yourself first.
