Seasonal Calf Rearer – Research Project (Fixed Term)
Start: 20 June 2026
End: October/November 2026 (depending on season)
Dairy Trust Taranaki is a leading dairy research and demonstration organisation operating four farms across the region. Our work focuses on practical, science-based solutions that improve farm performance, environmental outcomes, and animal wellbeing.
This season, we are running a dedicated calf rearing research project as part of our wider Net Zero programme, working alongside industry and science partners to test new systems and approaches.
The role
We are looking for experienced calf rearers to take full responsibility for calf rearing within a structured research project.
This is a hands-on role where your focus will be the day-to-day care, health, and performance of calves, while also supporting accurate data collection for the trial.
You will be working across automated calf rearing systems, following clear protocols to ensure consistency and high standards.
What we’re looking for
What’s in it for you
Dairy Trust Taranaki is an independent, not-for-profit, science-led dairy farming organisation operating four farms in Taranaki. Our work combines practical farming, research, and demonstration, turning ideas into real on-farm outcomes for the wider dairy sector.
What sets us apart is our focus on people. We believe strong farming businesses are built on capable teams, clear systems, safe workplaces, and an environment where people are supported to do their best work. Health and safety, wellbeing, and a respectful team culture are central to how we operate day to day.
Across our farms, we aim to create workplaces where people feel valued, supported, and part of something meaningful. Our teams not only run high-performing farms, but also contribute to work that helps shape the future of New Zealand dairy farming.
