Our herd manager of five years has chosen to retire from dairy farming so we have a position available. The Farm: 750 cows; 54 bail rotary with cup removers and Protrack; three staff full time (six over calving) plus relievers as required; running a 5 on, 2 off roster (6 on, 1 off for calving), located 5 minutes from Clydevale, 35 minutes from Gore and 25 minutes from Balclutha. We are looking for a good Herd Manager to join our team in Tarras Central Otago. We are in our first season on a brand new 1,500 cow conversion, milking through a new 80 bail Waikato rotary. The shed has Protrack, in-shed feeding, cow collars, Auto Smart Wash and really good cow flow. The farm is 500ha, fully irrigated with 8 centre pivots and fixed grid on the corners. It is split into 3 main blocks, with a herd based on each block. This is not a role where you are just helping run the farm. Animals • Implement animal health program to maintain good health. • Assist with calving and the calf rearing program to achieve minimal losses and ensure high quality replacements are available for the herd. • Assist to manage repairs and maintenance schedule for all plant, machinery and infrastructure. • Ensure all relevant company policies are understood and adhered to. • Experience/qualification is an advantage but not essential. • Dedication, commitment and willing to learn are the traits we are looking for.

We are seeking a Dairy Farm Assistant with at least 6+ months’ experience to work on a 750-cow farm located in the Milton area, approximately 17 minutes from Balclutha. You'll have a range of duties to keep you busy, interested and developing including: - Milking twice a day - shifting cows and feeding  - fencing, weed control - calving, calf rearing - shed cleaning and setup - identifying and alerting managers to sick cows - Setting fences - and other general farm duties. Weekly hours are a minimum of 32, with an average of 50 and a maximum of 55. Since farm work is dependent on a number of unknown factors like weather and animals, any hours worked beyond the agreed maximum in a fortnightly pay period will be paid   at the agreed overtime rate.   The schedule may vary; Roster will be 9 days on, 3 days off throughout the year.
