Due to last seasons calf rearer now rearing her own baby we now require a new calf rearer on our 950 cow dairy farm in Lauriston (Thompsons Track) which is 20min from Ashburton and 15min to Rakaia and Methven. This is a drive in position as there is no accommodation available. It will be for a fixed term period from Mid July 2026 to October 2026, it will be for approx. 40hrs per week and the roster can be discussed at the interview. Experience is a help but not essential as full training and support of our system will be given. We will be rearing 300 heifers and also feeding in excess of 400-500 Friesian bulls and Herefords to 4 days old. Calf Rearer - Relief Milker
Midway Dairies Ltd 10 Minutes West of Dunsandel
We are looking for some help on our 680-cow dairy farm, 10 minutes West of Dunsandel. The role is full time during calving season with sole responsibility for rearing 180 heifer replacement calves. We have a calf trailer to get milk from the shed to the calf sheds; this has a motor and pumps milk into calf feeders so no bucketing.  Option one is just to help during calving with the calves, so from the middle of July to mid/late September and we hire a relief milker separately. Option two is to help on the farm outside of feeding calves and the job will change to dairy farm assistant role from late July through to early February. This would include milking cows in our 50 bale rotary with cup removers. Getting cows in, putting up fences, spraying weeds and shifting k-line irrigation.  The job comes with a modern brick house which will be partially furnished.  Applicants must have a current work visa for New Zealand.

There would also be the option to help with milking in the mornings.  We milk 610 cows through a 54-bale rotary with protrack with smaXtec animal monitoring. Blackford Farming is an established family business.  The farm is 303ha, un-irrigated, with a 60 bail rotary shed, milking 1000 cows. The shed is modern, its fitted with ACR’s, auto teat sprayer, Protrac and Herd-i.  We have Halter cow collars and we have a composting shed that holds 300 cows.
