We are looking for someone to join our team in the next few weeks Our farm has been running with 3 full time staff with support from relief staff but as we move into the next chapter in our farming operations we believe we have room for a herd manager to come on board.  Our farm is located 10 minutes from Ashburton township. Split over two blocks we run at peak 700 mainly freisan cross bred cows. As a mostly self contained unit we tend to our young stock throughout the year and winter our own cows. Our cows are at the heart of our operation. Our successful applicant must have a genuine love for these animals. We are seeking an experienced farm worker (2+ years) to work as a Herd Manager on a 740-cow operation across two farms in the Wyndham area. The farm is located approximately 45 minutes from Invercargill and milks through a 25 Aside Herringbone shed. You'll have a range of duties to keep you busy, interested and developing including: Milking and monitoring milk quality, training junior staff, stock handling and feeding (feed mgt), fencing, weed control, calving, calf rearing, shed maintenance & preparation, tractor operation for feeding out, baling, mowing and silage monitoring, recording and maintaining animal health and other general farm duties. Weekly hours are a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 60. Due to unforeseen circumstances we are looking for someone to join us on our Dairy Farm near Morrinsville. We are milking 300 crossbred cows on 107ha 15 minutes North of Morrinsville. We have a brand new 30 aside herringbone cowshed with automatic cup removers and auto yard wash. There is a tidy 3 bedroom home available. The farm is grass based with grass and grass silage as the main feeds so this is a great place to learn excellent pasture management. We do about 110,000kgMS per year and typically go OAD in January each year. We aim for best practice in every area especially cow health, incalf rates, SCC and youngstock rearing. Feed Production Management • Assist with any feed planning or the management of as appropriate. • Assist to manage weeds and pests to maintain pasture and crops. • Milking • Maintain all appropriate effluent management records. • Know what to do when things go wrong. Animals • Implement animal health program to maintain good health. • Assist with calving and the calf rearing program to achieve minimal losses and ensure high quality replacements are available for the herd. • Assist to manage repairs and maintenance schedule for all plant, machinery and infrastructure. • Ensure all relevant company policies are understood and adhered to. • Experience/qualification is an advantage but not essential. • Dedication, commitment and willing to learn are the traits we are looking for.
