We are small family owned and operated dairy farm with 450 jersey cows looking for our next permanent full-time Farm Assistant. Our farm is located in the Canterbury foothills in Mount Somers which is 20 minutes from Methven and 30 minutes to Ashburton and we milk twice daily through a 40 aside herringbone cowshed with grain feeders, auto cup removers and auto teat spray. You will work as part of team to complete daily jobs of milking (twice daily), moving stock, setting up paddocks, tractor work, spraying, moving k-lines for effluent as well as general maintenance and cleaning. During this time of year we are moving stock on winter crops at the run off and doing maintenance jobs. We would prefer someone with at least one year experience We run a 11 days on and 3 days off roster so you generally get second Saturday, Sunday and Monday off. Tractor driving Loading and feeding out with silage wagon  Mating Heat detection to a high level No collars are used on farm Lame cows , able to identify treat and trim lame cows Treat Sick cows , able to identify and treat a variety of health issues in cows and record treatments Experience with Protrac and Minda an advantage Pasture experience doing pasture walks an advantage MILKING COWS all of our staff are on the milking roster this is a big part of the job Farm has centre pivot irrigation and a small amount of k-lines ACR , in shed feeding, Protrac and Minda

We are looking for a motivated person who has a passion for making a career in the dairy industry. MUST BE CURRENTLY LIVING IN NEW ZEALAND  PREFERANCE GIVEN TO NEW ZEALAND CITIZENS OR RESIDENCE  Duties include  Carry out managers daily plan and direct staff as required Grass management, weekly readings with a tow behind pasture meter Feed management, ability to look at grass and make adjustments based on residuals, weather and grass growth practical experience is required. Shed management, ability to main shed to a high standard  Tractor work, practical experience with a feedout wagon in a timely manor Heat Detection, record keeping and drafting during mating  Identify, record and treat sick and lame cows with accuracy Primary school bus available to Mt Somers primary school Secondary school bus available to Mt Hutt College Methven
