We require reliable and motivated assistants, with a minimum of 6 months experience on NZ dairy farms, milking in a herringbone cowshed. The successful candidates will have handled cattle safely in the past and had some experience with calf rearing. The position involves getting cows in, milking, setting up of the cow shed and cleaning the dairy and plant. There will be the setting of break fences daily, some basic machinery maintenance, along with farm maintenance including weed spraying and lawn mowing. Stock management including reporting on bulling cows, assisting with administering health treatments as required, long with the weighing drenching and vaccinating of stock as required.  As we calve twice a year, assistance with calf rearing will be required.

Purpose of the position: Assists with daily operational tasks as directed, including feeding, milking, animal health, effluent. Is aware of on-farm compliance, e.g. health, safety, and wellbeing; environment, animal welfare, etc. Milking : Assists in efficient and hygienic milking routine. Follows procedure to produce high quality milk. Carries out milk harvesting tasks as directed and is developing the correct skills to milk efficiently and safely. • Helps set up dairy prior to milking and on time. • Milks cows efficiently and safely, as directed. • Uses backing gate well. • Teat sprays well. • Marks cows well.
