Due to our current 2IC being unable to return to work for reasons beyond his control, we are looking for a new 2IC or a Farm Assistant willing to be trained into becoming a 2IC to join our small farm approx. 20 minutes from Gore. We milk 400 Friesian cows through a 40ASHB with ACR's, in-shed feeding and an auto draft gate.  Farm is family owned with the other farm being 5 minutes down the road, we try to work in together when needed. Our farm is run by the contract milkers (Husband and wife both on farm), and we employ one full time staff member. We will also have a relief milker this season. We are looking for an experienced 2IC to join us for the remainder of the 2026/2027 season. Our farm is located in Northern Southland - milking 1000 cows through a 50 bail rotary with Afimilk collars, Protrack drafting and automatic cup removers. You will be working with the sharemilkers and other staff members. Key duties will be milking, ensuring milk quality and shed hygiene is maintained to a high standard and assisting with feeding of stock as advised by sharemilker. You must be able to assist with all calving and mating requirements, be able to record information accurately and have good knowledge of animal health and welfare. You must be able to communicate effectively within a team, comply with all health and safety policies and take pride in maintaining a clean and tidy dairy platform.
