You will work with 650 predominantly Friesian cows, milked using a 54 bail rotary shed with ACRs, Protrack, in-shed feeding, Datamar Collars, and irrigated paddocks. This is a full-time position working alongside the Farm Manager to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the farm. The successful applicant will be actively involved in all aspects of dairy farming, including milking, animal health, pasture management, machinery operation, calving, and general farm maintenance. This role requires a hands-on individual with excellent stockmanship, strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment. We are seeking an experienced farm worker (12+ months) to join our team as Assistant Herd Manager on an 1,800-cow farm in the Ashburton area, operating a two 50 Bail Rotary milking shed. You'll have a range of duties to keep you busy, interested and developing including: Milking and monitoring milk quality, stock handling and feeding (feed mgt), fencing, weed control, calving, calf rearing, shed cleaning and setup identifying and alerting managers to sick cows setting fences and other general farm duties. Weekly hours are a minimum of 35 and a maximum of 44. Since farm work is dependent on a number of unknown factors like weather and animals, any hours worked beyond the agreed maximum in a fortnightly pay period will be paid at the agreed overtime rate.
