Assistant Manager (2IC) - Tasmania!

Job Description

Looking for your next move in dairy? This is a great opportunity to join an established family-owned farming business in North West Tasmania, with the flexibility to appoint someone at the level that suits their experience.

Whether you're an experienced Farm Assistant ready to take the next step, or an experienced 2IC looking for a well-run farm and a long-term opportunity, we'd love to hear from you.

About the farm

The farm milks around 750 cross-bred cows through a modern 60-stand rotary shed, with a predominantly pasture-based system and grain fed in the dairy.

It's a well-maintained property with good infrastructure, a supportive team and experienced management. Autumn calving has recently finished, so you'll have the opportunity to settle in and get to know the farm before the next busy period.

About the role

Your responsibilities will be matched to your experience and could include:

  • Milking and day-to-day dairy operations
  • Animal health, welfare and stockmanship
  • Stock movement and feeding
  • Machinery operation
  • Fencing, spraying, repairs and general maintenance
  • Supporting the Farm Manager with daily planning
  • Team leadership and coordination for someone with more experience
  • Helping maintain efficient farm operations

For the right person, there is room to grow into more responsibility and a 2IC position.

What we're looking for

We're open to different levels of experience. You could be:

  • A junior dairy farmer with 1–2 years' experience looking for your next opportunity
  • An experienced Farm Assistant ready to step up
  • An established 2IC looking for a new challenge

Most importantly, you'll have good practical dairy skills, a positive attitude, strong stockmanship and be someone who is reliable and willing to get stuck in.

You'll also need:

  • Valid Australian working rights
  • Full driver's licence
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical

Agricultural qualifications are an advantage but aren't essential.

What's on offer

  • $75,000 AUD + 12% Super
  • Tidy 2-bedroom home provided
  • Relocation support available
  • Maximum average 50-hour working week
  • Supportive Farm Manager and Operations Manager
  • Opportunity to develop your skills and take on more responsibility
  • Long-term career opportunities
  • Potential work opportunity for your partner on the same farm

Great opportunity for a couple

There's also a Farm Assistant position available on the same dairy, making this a particularly good opportunity for a couple looking to relocate to Tasmania and work together.

The current Farm Assistant position is becoming available as a Working Holiday couple move on, so couples are encouraged to apply.

Life in North West Tasmania

Enjoy a relaxed rural lifestyle, affordable living and a welcoming farming community, with local towns, shops and services within easy reach.

Whether you're ready for your first step up, already an experienced 2IC, or looking to make a move to Australia as a couple, we'd love to hear from you.
