2IC – Dairy Farm Position | Manawatu

We are looking for a motivated, reliable and experienced 2IC to join our team on a well-run 650-cow dairy farm in the Manawatu.

We milk 650 calm Friesian-cross cows in a pasture-based system, and we are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and has a genuine passion for excellent animal care and maintaining high standards across the farm.

About the Role

This is a hands-on 2IC position for someone who can hit the ground running, work well as part of a team and take responsibility when required.

The successful applicant will have:

• Excellent stockmanship and animal husbandry skills, with a strong eye for detail.

• A genuine commitment to cow health, welfare and comfort.

• High standards of cleanliness and hygiene, particularly around the cows, milking shed and working areas.

• The ability to recognise changes in cow behaviour, health or condition and act promptly.

• A clean, tidy and organised approach to all aspects of the job.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to lead and support another staff member.

• A positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to get stuck in.

• Good time management and the ability to work independently.

• A good sense of humour and the ability to contribute positively to the team.

Pasture management experience is preferred but not essential. We are happy to support the right person who has the attitude and willingness to learn.

The Farm

The farm is just over 250 hectares, with rolling to flat contour and some steeper areas.

The system includes:

• 650 Friesian-cross cows with wearables

• 44ASHB with automation

• Irrigation

• In-shed meal feeding

• Pasture-based farming system

• Summer cropping
