Matamata 50/50 600 cows

Job Description

Due to farm purchase by the existing Sharemilker of 13yrs an opportunity has arisen for a top performer to be the next caretaker of this picturesque 260ha eff, 600 cow self-contained property the farm owners have improved over more than 50 years.

Located 15 mins from Matamata at Richmond Downs, the property was converted around 2009 and is well set up with a centrally located 54 bail rotary cowshed, in-shed feeding, ACRs, Auto teat spray and drafting as well as a 350-400 cow flood-washed feed pad.

Two concrete bunkers allow for good storage of around 450t maize/grass silage along with a separate twin PK/minerals/fert bunker.  A solids wedge and lined pond complete the set up.

Around 500t is bought in (75% PK) as well as about 60t molasses, approx 18-20ha of maize is grown on farm each year of which 75% goes back into annual and about 80-100kgN/ha has also been used.

Based on the above inputs, calving around 640 cows as well as some OAD after Christmas for young cows, the 3yr production level is circa 275,000kgMS (265, 277, 283 – record) with 100 R2s and R1s also grazed on farm.

Existing cows and machinery are not available for purchase.

The modern main home has a great outlook with elevated views over surrounding countryside and consists of 4 bedrooms, main bathroom + ensuite and detached double garage.

Staff housing consists of 2 other homes; 3 bed with double garage and 2 bed with single garage.

There is a tiny home plumbed in and owned by the SM that may be available for purchase depending on requirements.

The contour is mostly rolling to easy hill and the farm owners have lovingly improved their asset with a number of areas of native plantings, wetlands and ponds.

Fencing and races are of a high standard as is the general tidiness of the property which is important to the farm owners along with happy staff and cows.

The property has been farmed very well by a top operator for a number of years however the farm system and cow numbers are not set in stone and is open for discussion with farm owners and consultant.

Opportunities of this calibre, size and location don’t come up every day and the farm owners seek a business partner who is a proven operator and communicator with excellent pasture, feed and financial management skills.

Please apply with CV including a cover letter relative to this position and why you would be a good fit.

All applications done via farm consultant.
