We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Farm Assistant to join our ~330-cow dairy operation, working alongside the Contract Milker and other farm staff.
We are looking for someone who is reliable, hardworking and keen to develop their skills and experience within the dairy industry. This would be an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build their knowledge and progress their career in dairy farming.
Responsibilities
Assist with day-to day activities involved with running the farm, including (but not limited to):
Daily duties
· Carrying out milkings
· Operating the milking plant and equipment
· Assisting with operating and monitoring the effluent system
· Shifting and maintaining irrigation (K-lines)
· Operating farm machinery as required
Herd management
· Assisting with good animal husbandry and monitoring animal health
· Identifying and reporting cows requiring attention, including mastitis, lameness or illness
· Assisting with spring calving and calf rearing
· Assisting with breeding activities
· Assisting with vaccinations, teat sealing, drenching and drying off
· Assisting with lameness prevention and treatment
· Assisting with moving stock to and from blocks
Pasture and grazing
· Assisting with fertiliser application
· Managing weeds as directed
· Feeding out supplements
· Assisting with covering and uncovering silage pits
· Assisting with managing cows on crop
Other
· Keeping accurate records as required
· General repairs and maintenance
· Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working environment
Lakeside Honey contract milks a 330 cow dairy farm just outside of Featherston, Wairarapa. The farm is 97 ha, twice a day milking, with a 24 aside herringbone, and K line irrigation.
