Farm Assistant / 2IC (Second In Charge) - Work available for partner

Job Description

A full-time position has become available for a motivated and enthusiastic farm assistant/2IC to join our team (there is also the possibility of regular part-time work for a partner). Farm is located near Whataroa (South Westland), milking 700 cows through a modern 60 bale rotary with automatic cup removers and teat spray, automatic drafting and Allflex collars. We offer generous time off - 4 weeks holiday - and an 11 on 3 off roster through the majority of the season (Calving period operates 12 on 2 off). A minimum of 1 year experience is desirable, although will look at new entrants to the industry that show the right attributes - training is provided.

Modern 3 bedroom house that meets healthy home standards is available on farm.

The role (including but not limited too):

  • Paid hourly - negotiable on experience
  • Must have a good emphasis on turning up on time, animal health, milk quality, communication and doing the basics right
  • Assist and have input in all aspects of the day to day running of a progressive dairy farm
  • Milking - mastitis detection, treatments, maintain a clean working environment
  • General farm duties - weed management, animal husbandry, break fences, all day-to-day jobs relating to the efficient running of a dairy farm
  • Tractor/machinery operation
  • Maintain a high level of workmanship

The applicant:

  • Must be a New Zealand resident or have/be able to obtain a valid working visa
  • Have a valid driver's licence - minimum restricted
  • Dairying experience is desirable but not essential - positive personal attributes is important.
  • Able to pass a drug test if required
