Job Description

Assistant Manager/2IC  – 900 Cow Dairy Farm | Methven

Are you an experienced dairy farmer looking for a role where you can take on responsibility, have a genuine input into the operation and work alongside a good Farm Manager?

We are looking for a 2IC to join our 900-cow dairy farm, just out of Methven.

This is a well-established, well-resourced operation with good facilities, a strong team and the equipment required to do the job properly. The current 2IC is moving on at the end of September creating an opening for someone ready to step into the role.

The role

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys being involved in all aspects of dairy farming.

Working closely with the Farm Manager, you will have an important role in:

  • Day-to-day running of the farm
  • Herd management and animal health
  • Pasture and feed management
  • Staff leadership and day-to-day organisation
  • Farm maintenance and machinery
  • Milking and general dairy shed operations
  • Helping plan and execute the seasonal workload
  • Maintaining high standards across the farm

We are looking for someone who is practical, reliable and confident taking responsibility. You don't need to know everything, but you do need a good work ethic, sound dairy knowledge, proven ability to manage pastures and the ability to lead by example.

This could suit an experienced dairy farmer wanting to step into a 2IC position, or an existing 2IC looking for a larger operation and more responsibility.
