Herd Manager - Patoka, Hawke's Bay
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Herd Manager to join our progressive dairy farming operation located in Patoka, Hawke's Bay, approximately 30 minutes from Taradale and 40 minutes from Napier.
Our farm milks 350 cows on rolling to steep hill country and is currently transitioning to an organic, pasture-based farming system. We are looking for someone who takes pride in animal care, enjoys working outdoors, and can contribute positively to our team environment.
About the Role
- Milking 350 cows through a modern 40-bale rotary shed equipped with Automatic Cup Removers (ACRs) and Halter technology
- Supporting day-to-day herd management and farm operations
- Maintaining high standards of animal health and welfare
- Operating tractors and farm machinery safely and confidently on hilly terrain
- Assisting with pasture management and feeding systems
- Contributing to the continued development of our organic farming practices
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong animal husbandry skills
- Experience in dairy farming and herd management
- Confidence operating tractors and machinery on rolling to steep country
- Be physically fit and capable of carrying out the demands of dairy farming
- A positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
