DRY STOCK - GENERAL FARM POSITION / STOCKMAN

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a person to assist us in the running of our three farms.  This position is based on a 240 Ha farm in Pikowai (Matata Straights, Whakatane/Tauranga boundary) with the responsibility of looking after the day to day running on this farm.  Approximately 35 min from Whakatane and 30 min from Te Puke.  The job is responsible for calving 150 cows over spring, has 150  x 2yo bulls to sell in the spring and yearling bulls.  All of the farms are primarily beef blocks, with 650 commercial and registered Hereford cows,  Hereford bulls for the dairy industry, and dairy heifer grazing of our own animals.  This farm is run in conjunction with another 480 Ha farm by the farm owner, 7km away.  There is also another 70 Ha block run by another worker.  The farms are all run together as needed and  you would be expected to work on all farms.  You would be ultimately accountable to the Farm owner.

 The successful applicant MUST have prior farm experience, reliable and with a good work ethic.  They will have to be happy to work by themselves at times and with others.  Good communication is essential as they will need to liaise with the farm owner.  The applicant will need 2-3 working dogs.

Jobs entails:

- pasture management

- stock management (drenching, weighing, calving etc)

- general farm maintenance

- fencing – both new and repairs

- water maintenance

- weed control - spraying

- break feeding over winter with intensive feeding out of silage

- assisting with hay/silage making on multiple properties

- tractor driving EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL

Requirements:

- confident riding motorbikes and good stockmanship

- Must have experience with tractor driving hopefully with feeding out.

- FULL DRIVERS LICENCE, non-negotiable.

- must be a NZ Resident and currently residing in NZ

 House – tidy 3-bedroom home with 2 fires and double glazing.  A large deck surrounds the home.  Garage and carport with a fenced section.  The house is very rural at the end of a road.  The location is spectacular with fishing and hunting  nearby and many great towns to choose from.

 School – Otamarakau and Matata school is nearby.  There is no school bus at the gate and would need to drive 10 min down the road to the bus.

 Renumeration – package will reflect skills and based on experience. Ute and quad bike available.
