Job Description

As 2IC, you’ll work closely with the Farm Manager and play an important role in the day-to-day running of the farm. We’re looking for someone who is reliable, practical, and confident working with a large herd and modern dairy system.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated person to join our team. 

 This is a key leadership role where you will help manage and support a team of five people. We are looking for someone with strong communication and people-management skills who can lead by example, build positive working relationships, and help keep the team motivated and working well together.

A positive attitude is essential. You should be approachable, reliable, confident when dealing with people, and willing to support the team when challenges arise. The ability to communicate clearly, give direction, and contribute to a positive workplace culture will be very important in this role.

We hold high expectations for presentation, shed hygiene, animal welfare and targets such as SCC and production. You will need to be able to uphold these expectations and help implement and encourage this within the rest of the team.

Halter will be on farm end of this month

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Farm Manager with day-to-day farm operations
  • Milking and managing a 1,000-cow herd
  • 60 bale rotary with auto cup removers
  • Herd health and animal welfare
  • Pasture and feed management
  • Machinery and general farm maintenance
  • Staff support and team leadership
  • Helping maintain high standards across the farm

About You

We’re looking for someone with:

Proven dairy farming experience

  • Experience working with large herds
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in New zealand dairy farming
  • Good stockmanship and attention to detail
  • A strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • A full New Zealand driver's licence
  • New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency or AEWV
  • currently living in New zealand
  • A genuine commitment to dairy farming
