Farm Assistant Positions Available

We are seeking motivated Farm Assistants to join our team on a well-established dairy farm.

About the Farm

  • Size: 235 ha, milking 900 cows through a 50-bale rotary shed
  • Infrastructure: Waikato plant, ACRs, Protrack drafting system, complemented by a 450-cow feed pad
  • System: Operating a System 4
  • Feeding: Each cow receives approx. 1 tonne of maize and 1 tonne of PKE/soybean hull, plus other concentrate supplements, all delivered via a Keenan mixer wagon
  • Young stock: young stock and calf rearing
  • Herd: Spring-calving, mainly FJX cows averaging 500 kg
  • Production Goal: 410,000 kg MS for the coming season

 Key Tasks & Responsibilities

Training will be provided

  • Milking cows
  • Setting up break fences
  • Identifying and treating mastitis cases
  • Tractor driving and feeding out
  • Calving and calf rearing
  • Heat detection
  • Recording animal health details
  • Daily farm maintenance
  • Compliance with Health & Safety standards

 Roster & Pay

  • Roster: 11 days on / 3 days off
  • Guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week
  • Pay rate:  $25.50/hour to $30 (depending on experience)
  • Overtime: Any hours over 40/week paid at the same hourly rate

Accommodation

  • Newly renovated 2-bedroom house (shared with another worker)
  • Rent deducted from wages
  • Power and internet payable by occupants

Requirements

  • Clean criminal record
  • CV and two referees
  • No previous farming experience required
  • Good communication skills 
  • Keen to learn

Our dairy farm is situated between Gordonton and Horsham Downs, about 10 minutes north of Hamilton. We have 235 ha with 900 cows to calve. It has a good level of infrastructure, a 50 bail rotary shed with waikato plant, ACRs and protrack drafting, which is complemented by a 450 cow feed-pad. We run a system 4, and feed 1 tonne of maize per cow plus 1 tonne of PKE/ soyabean hull, and other concentrate supplement. everything is delivered through a Keenan mixer wagon. A good range of support equipment and staff to operate is supplied. In conjunction with the main farm we have a 50ha and another 40ha support block which we grow maize, run some young stock and rear some calves. We have a spring calving herd of mainly FJX 500 kg cows. Production goal for the coming season is 375,000 kg ms.
