Farm Assistant - TBC

Job Description

This role will be working in a team of 6 on a family friendly farm with a strong focus around the cows and the cowshed. Working along side the contract milker and other staff members who have a focus around tractor driving and repairs and maintenance. Most importantly we are looking for someone who is calm and quiet with cows and who is a motivated self starter person who does not necessarily need to be told what to do on a daily basis.

  • Milking 1700 cows at peak through a 60 bale rotary
  • Cup removers - Protrack - Inshed feeding - Dosatron for minerals - CowManager Tags
  • 80% irrigated by 6 centre pivots with effluent on some
  • Well laid out farm with good equal sized paddocks for easy management 

This role can be tailored to suit someone being either a full time milk harvester, farm assistant or herd manager. Daily jobs likely to include but not limited to:
- Milking, setting up paddock break fences
- Animal health - ability to spot and treat mastitis and lame cows
- Regular pasture assessment
- Cleaning of cowshed
- Underpasses
- Weed control - thistle - gorse and ragwort spraying

Accommodation is a 3 bedroom home with a garage and carport. It has a log burner  and a heat pump. The roster is 8 on 2 off with two early finishes and several later starts at 7am.

Located 5 mins to Rongotea, 10 mins to Sanson, 10 mins to Foxton, 20 mins to Feilding and 25 mins to Palmerston North. 

Remuneration package based on experience.
