Job Description

ABOUT THE FARM

We are a 172-hectare effective, fully irrigated dairy farm, peak milking around 720 cows through a 50-bale rotary shed.

Our irrigation system consists of lateral irrigators, centre pivot, a small amount of K-line and fixed-grid irrigation, providing reliable pasture production throughout the season.

We operate a pasture-based farming system, with a strong focus on growing and utilising quality pasture efficiently. The farm is run with less than 300 kg of imported feed per cow, so good pasture management, stockmanship and attention to detail are important parts of the system.

This is a large-scale, productive dairy operation where there is plenty of variety in the work and an opportunity to gain experience across all aspects of the farm.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in their work and wants to be part of a hardworking team. The role will involve:

·       Milking efficiently through our 50-bale rotary shed

·       Setting up and shifting break fences

·       Washing the milking plant and vat

·       Assisting with general farm maintenance

·       Identifying animal health issues and carrying out treatments as directed

·       Operating farm vehicles and machinery, including 2-wheel motorbike, car and tractor

·       Monitoring pasture, water leaks, effluent and general farm conditions

·       Assisting with calving, including calf collection, tubing and feeding, matching calves with dams and colostrum cow management

·       Following farm policies and health & safety procedures

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The ideal applicant will be:

·       Reliable, hardworking and willing to get stuck in

·       Comfortable working with cows and calves

·       Able to work both independently and as part of a team

·       Willing to learn and take direction

·       Ideally have some previous dairy farming experience

·       Someone who takes pride in doing jobs properly and keeping the farm running well

We are happy to consider someone with less experience if they have the right attitude, work ethic and willingness to learn.
