Experienced 2IC | Full Autumn Calving | Winter Milk

We are looking for an experienced 2IC to join a well-run 370ha effective dairy farm, milking a Friesian herd and producing approximately 290,000kgMS.

This is a full autumn-calving, winter-milk operation with no spring calving, operating a System 4 farming system. We are situated at Matauri Bay in Northland. The farm is part of an integrated farming business comprising 5 dairy platforms, and a beef finishing unit, dairy support unit and purpose-built calf rearing facility.  

The farm offers:

·         Modern 54-bale rotary – 5 years old

·         Halter system with automatic drafting

·         Herd homes

·         Quality late-model machinery

·         Well-maintained infrastructure

·         Young stock grazed off farm

·         Excellent support systems

We’re looking for someone who:

·         Has proven 2IC, Assistant Manager or equivalent dairy farming experience

·         Has a strong track record of performance and stockmanship

·         Communicates clearly and professionally

·         Takes ownership and can work confidently without constant supervision

·         Understands the demands and opportunities of a winter-milk system

·         Is confident with people, stock and day-to-day farm management

This is an experienced position and is not suitable for someone looking to enter dairy farming or take their first step into a management role.

You will work closely with the Farm Manager and have genuine responsibility for day-to-day farm performance, including stock, pasture and feed management, people, H&S, environmental management and farm infrastructure.

Important eligibility

Applicants must currently reside in New Zealand, have a minimum of a current NZ restricted driver’s license, be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check. Applicants who require a work visa must already hold the appropriate visa/work rights for the position.
