Farm Assistant / Relief Milker – Mayfield, Ashburton

Short-term calving work with ongoing part-time farm work available

We are looking for a reliable, practical person to join our dairy farm team, located just 2 minutes from Mayfield, Ashburton.

For the next 4 weeks during calving, we are looking for approximately 20–25 hours per week, helping with the busy calving period and general farm work.

Once calving is finished, there is the opportunity for ongoing work covering regular days off, including milking and a range of general farm duties.

The work

During calving, duties may include:

• Helping with calving and calf care
• General stock work
• Feeding calves
• Shed and yard duties
• General farm maintenance and cleaning

After calving, work will include covering days off and assisting with:

• Milking cows
• Spraying weeds
• Fence maintenance
• General farm and property maintenance
• Other day-to-day dairy farm jobs as required

The farm

We milk approximately 440 cows through a modern 30-aside herringbone shed equipped with:

• Automatic cup removers
• Walk-on teat spray
• Cow collars
• Automatic drafting

We are looking for someone who is reliable, willing to work, and comfortable around cows and general farm work. Previous dairy farm experience is preferred, but the right attitude and willingness to learn are important.

Shared accommodation is available on the farm.

Visa requirements

Applicants must hold an approved work visa or a Working Holiday Visa that allows them to undertake this work.

About Mayfield

Mayfield is a small, friendly rural township in the Mid-Canterbury region, located around 30 minutes from Ashburton. It is a great base for anyone wanting to experience rural New Zealand while still being within easy reach of Ashburton and the surrounding countryside.

The area is surrounded by farmland, rivers and spectacular mountain scenery. Nearby attractions include Mount Hutt, the Rakaia Gorge, Hakatere Conservation Park and the wider Canterbury high-country area. Ashburton provides supermarkets, shops, cafes, restaurants and other amenities, while Methven is also within easy driving distance and is well known as a gateway to Mount Hutt.
