Job Description

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic farm assistant to join our dairy farming team.

We are a family owned and operated dairy farm, located in Ruawai, Northland. We operate a spring calving, 580 cow, system 3 dairy unit across 230 hectares, targeting 215,000kg/ms, alongside a support block which accommodates our youngstock. We take pride in our animals, our environment and our team.

The role of farm assistant will require you to be milking twice a day, assisting with milk quality and animal health, assisting with feeding animals and pasture utilisation, assisting with dairy shed hygiene and general farm work. We use the DairyNZ farm assistant profile as a job description.

You must work well within a team, be willing to learn and have great communication skills. You will be required to complete formal farm training, such as Primary ITO if you have not done so previously.

You must be able to understand technology and be able to utilise it in your work.

You must have a thorough understanding of workplace health and safety, and actively put this into practice daily.

You must be able to operate two and four-wheeler motorbikes. Ideally, you will be able to operate a tractor, but full training is provided.

You must be confident and quiet around livestock.

You must be physically fit, reliable, punctual and tidy.

You must have a full, clean drivers licence.

You must be drug and alcohol free, and be able to pass random drug and alcohol tests.

 

Minimum skill requirements include NCEA Level 2 or equivalent. Written and spoken English language skills. We do require at least one reference from a current or previous employer.

Shared accommodation is available.

The farm assistant role is a permanent full-time position, with a minimum of 30 hours guaranteed per week. Pay is negotiable based on experience, starting at $26/hour to $30/hour. Roster is currently, 6/1, 4/2, or variations of; this will change to accommodate an additional team member. You will be required to work weekends and public holidays.
