Fixed-Term Farm Assistant (Drive-in)

Job Description

Fixed Term Farm Assistant | Start Now – 1 October | Drive-In | 800 Cows | Rukuhia

Are you looking for a role where you're part of a supportive team, your hard work is appreciated, and no two days are the same?

Six17 Limited is looking for a Fixed Term Farm Assistant over calving to join our team from now until 1 October on our 800-cow dairy farm located just 10km from Hamilton and 22km from Te Awamutu. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience during one of the busiest times of the season while working alongside a positive, motivated team who enjoy helping each other succeed.

Our farm is 240 effective hectares, a System 3 operation producing 475–490kgMS/cow through a modern 60-bail rotary with ACRs and the Afimilk animal management system. The farm is predominantly peat soils, requiring good stock management and attention to detail, particularly during wetter periods.

As a Farm Assistant, you'll be involved in a wide range of day-to-day farming tasks including milking, animal health, feeding, calf rearing (where required), fencing, weed control, general farm maintenance and keeping the farm running efficiently alongside the team.

What we're looking for

Strong work ethic and reliability – someone who takes pride in doing a good job and can be counted on by the team.

Positive attitude – willing to get stuck in, help where needed and contribute to a supportive team culture.

Initiative and practical thinking – able to work independently once trained and use common sense to solve day-to-day challenges.

Willingness to learn – keen to build skills and gain experience while working with an experienced team.

Previous dairy farming experience is preferred, however applicants with transferable skills, a great attitude and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.

This is a fixed-term drive-in position over calving, making it ideal for someone looking for seasonal work through to 1 October, whether you're building your dairy farming experience or looking for a rewarding role during calving.

Please note we are not accredited to employ workers on the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV). Applicants must already have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
