We a looking for a young and ambitious Farm Assistant, who has at least the basic immediate skills to fill this role. We would like to mentor someone who wishes to grow into a managerial position within a 2 year time frame, and study to do so. We would hire as Farm Assistant to begin with, however a swift move up the ladder could be on the cards for the right person. If you exceed our expectations, we will re-classify and remunrate accordingly.
We have a rolling contour farm, a mixture of dry and wet areas, and special consideration to this aspect is a must in order for this farm to succeed. We have a 34 aside Herringbone Shed, with Automatic cup removers and in-shed feed system. We are moving into a System 3 Farm Structure.
We are a DIY farm, meaning we don't contract out for help. Building structures, maintenance and repairs on all equipement and machinery, big and little projects, planting, cropping and pasture management are all done in house. A flare for kiwi-inginuity and a can-do attitude are a must. Our ideal candidate must be comfortable and happy to work independently.
Pasture management is a large part of the success on this farm - having some basic knowledge in the science in this area would be a bonus.
Basic skills that are a must:
- Can operate a tractor efficiently, including using a loader, attaching implements such as bale feeder, feed out wagon etc and knows how to and the importance of machinery maintenance.
- Saftely milk cows to ensure their optimum health, as well as do this efficiently, understanding that time is precious.
- Can set breaks efficiently and with ease.
- Stock sense - can read cows and move them from A-B.
- Can drive and operate 4x4 and 2 Wheeler.
- Has basic knowlege of the use of an irrigator.
- Understands how power and electricity works.
- Can already fence with competence.

- Accountable - we all make mistakes, but we own them and move on.
- Time sensitive - there's not enough hours in the day - working to maximum efficiency is the goal.

- Good communicator - responding to messages, communicating relevant information to the team.

- Flexible - every day looks different, this is not just a position for someone who wishes to only clock in and out.
New 1 bedroom tiny house, fenced off section at top of a hill with a view, has an outdoor storage/laundry room and deck. It's modern and can come fully furnished - suitable for 1 person only, but we would allow 2 people if needed.
