Farm Assistant / Assistant Herd Manager

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated dairy farmer to join our family-owned farming business following an unexpected vacancy.

About us

We’re a progressive South Taranaki dairy farming business milking approximately 400 cows. We believe successful farming starts with great people, excellent animal welfare and a positive team culture.

We’re continually looking for ways to improve and have embraced technology, including Halter, to make farming smarter, more efficient and more enjoyable.

You’ll work closely with hands-on owners and an experienced 2IC in a business where your ideas, effort and development are genuinely valued.

The role

You’ll be involved in all aspects of the farming operation, including:

  • Milking and efficient shed operation
  • Animal health and welfare
  • Identifying and treating mastitis and common animal health issues
  • Heat detection and mating support
  • Pasture management
  • Tractor operation and general farm maintenance
  • Seasonal calf rearing
  • Working with Halter technology and modern farm systems

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has at least two years’ New Zealand dairy farming experience
  • Is honest, reliable and takes pride in doing a great job
  • Has a positive attitude and enjoys working in a team
  • Communicates well and is willing to learn
  • Takes animal welfare seriously
  • Wants to build a long-term career in the dairy industry
  • Is legally entitled to work in New Zealand
