2nd In Charge / Assistant Manager.
Reporting To / Employed By 50/50 Sharemilker.
This is a drive in position as there is unfortunately no accommodation on farm for staff . We are on the first farm out of New Plymouth on Barrett Road.
Ideally the successful applicant will rent or live in close proximity in New Plymouth, we would suggest Whalers gate or Spotswood or West town.
Wintering 780 spring calving Jersey Cows. on rolling to steep contour milked through a 44 bail rotary cowshed with inshed feeding and cup removers. 2 or 3 herd system.
Milking 3 herds for the majority of the season ,makes for a complex system with plenty of time sitting on a motorbike. Being punctual and reliable is a key requirement.
We require an enthusiastic team player with the following experience / capabilities.
Tractor driving ( feeding out silage bales safely on rolling contour )
Operating Quad bike and two wheeler motorbikes on rolling contour to steep contour.)
A strong Animal Health awareness - Being confident in Identifying and treating the following health conditions....
*Milk Fever
*Lameness
*Bloat
*Mastitis
*Ill Thrift
*Heat/Cycling Behaviour
*Calving
You will need to be a good communicator, and reliable for turning up to work.
You will occasionally be required to communicate and organize staff.
You will maintain a healthy working relationship with other staff & sale reps etc on farm.
Be proactive identifying farm maintenance needs.
Following / contributing to on farm Health and safety
Weed control
Recording animal health Compliance Records
Dairy shed Compliance records. And Good Shed Hygiene
An Awareness of Dairy effluent destination.
Assisting with calf rearing.
A knowledge of the water system and monitoring water levels.
A valid Drivers License.
