Dairy Assistant or Herd Manager

We are seeking a Dairy Assistant or Herd Manager to join our team milking 620 cows,  Located 45 minutes from Feilding, the farm milks 620 cows through a 50 bale rotary cowshed with ACR’s and is in the process of installing Halter. As part of a teams of 3, you will assist with daily operational activities.

We are currently seeking Dairy Assistant or Herd Manager who have a passion for the dairy industry. Someone who takes pride in their work, has a passion for farming, is keen to learn and upskill, and all-round great attitude.  Chasing quality milk production from pasture, summer crop chicory and supplement over the feedpad or via in-shed meal, sets a great base to achieve 500kgMS/cow. We are seeking someone with a minimum of 2 years’ experience.  The Herd Manager position is characterised by someone who has sufficient experience to take higher responsibility for herd management and oversight.

The primary role for our applicant will be to assist with daily operational activities of the farm and herds, to achieve productivity targets.

  • Assist with and ensuring own health and safety is always keep to a high standard.  Having care and attention to what you do, reporting of any issues, near misses or incidents, looking out for others.
  • Participate in milking and cowshed operations and cleaning.  Our team is proud of our animals, and we are targeting to improve our SCC to below 150.
  • Help with animal health through identification, treatment and recording of mastitis, lameness, and any other health issues. 
  • Complete tractor work that includes loading and feed out various supplements, topping, rolling and trailer work.  General maintenance checks and cleaning will be required.
  • Be actively involved with allocating feed to stock, reporting residuals and keeping cows fully fed.

We provide a safe workplace, and the successful applicant will be required to pass a drug and alcohol test and a criminal background check. You must have the legal right to work in New Zealand to be considered for this role.

A comfy 2 bedroom house is available on farm.

 

The farm runs a 6 on 2 off roster throughout the year.

 

Applicants must have the ability to work in New Zealand and hold a valid NZ drivers licence. The business is not an Accredited Employer, and can not accept applications on that basis.

 This position may suit someone with a minimum of 2 years’ experience, a senior farm assistant, or herd manager.   There is an opportunity for potential casual work for a partner depending on skills, and subject to separate agreement.
