Southern Station Wagyu is a fully integrated Wagyu beef business that manages the supply chain from genetics to market. The company supplies Wagyu semen and bulls to dairy farmers, purchases the resulting Wagyu-cross calves, and oversees their development through grazing and grain-finishing programs to produce premium beef for domestic and international markets. To support its long-term breeding strategy, Southern Station Wagyu operates a Wagyu stud across three properties in the Hurunui District, utilising leading genetics, artificial insemination, and embryo transfer to drive genetic improvement and ensure consistent, high-performing cattle throughout the production system.
Your Role
Due to continued growth, Southern Station Wagyu is seeking a Stock Manager to join its expanding Wagyu breeding operation in the Hurunui District. This hands-on role will involve managing day-to-day livestock operations, including stock movements, feeding, animal health, performance monitoring, data recording, machinery work, and general farm maintenance. Calving is a key focus from August to October, with involvement in tagging, recording, and DNA testing calves.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a progressive and innovative business, gaining exposure to industry-leading breeding technologies including AI, ET, and the Halter livestock management system. With training provided and opportunities to be involved across the wider Wagyu supply chain, the role offers the chance to develop your skills and take on increasing responsibility within a high-performing enterprise.
What You’ll Bring:
· Good cattle management skills with confidence handling livestock.
· Competent machinery operator with feeding out and general farm experience.
· Sound fencing skills, including electric fence maintenance and fault finding.
· Confident using technology and willing to learn the Halter livestock management system.
· Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, NAIT, biosecurity, and animal welfare requirements.
· Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and use initiative.
· Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
· Physically fit and capable of meeting the demands of a hands-on farming role.
· Hold a full New Zealand Class 1 driver's licence.
· Committed to maintaining high workplace Health & Safety standards.
