Dairy Herd Manager

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Farm Assistant to join our dairy farming operation located in the Morrinsville, Waikato region, 450-470 cows on 34 ahbs with feed pad. 

This is a permanent full-time position offering a guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week. Weekend work and rostered duties are required as part of normal dairy farming operations.

About the Role

The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day management of the dairy herd and general farm operations while working closely with farm management.

This role is based on a hilly dairy farm, so applicants must be comfortable working on steep and uneven terrain in varying weather conditions. Experience handling stock on hill country and maintaining pasture on rolling land will be an advantage.

Key responsibilities include:

• Milking and maintaining high milk quality standards
• Monitoring animal health and reporting issues
• Assisting with mating, calving, and herd management 
• Moving and handling stock safely on hill country
• Operating and maintaining farm machinery and equipment
• Fencing, weed control, track maintenance, and general farm maintenance
• Ensuring animal welfare standards are maintained
• Following workplace health and safety procedures
• Assisting with staff supervision and training where required

Skills and Experience Required

Applicants must have:

• Driving License Full
• Smike Free and Drug Free

• Good stock handling abilities, particularly on hilly terrain
• Strong work ethic and reliability
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Physical fitness suitable for hill country farm work
• Commitment to animal welfare and health and safety practices

Employment Details

• Permanent full-time position
• Guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week
• Hourly rate between $26.50 to $30.50 per hour depending on skills and experience
• Located in Morrinsville, Waikato
• SHARED ACCOMMODATION is provided.  The other tenant will also be an employee working on the dairy farm.
• Pre- Drug test must be passed
